18TH YEAR OF THE SWING MUSIC FESTIVAL
On the 11th a 12th November the 18th year of the Swing Music Festival took place in the National House of Vinohrady.
The lovers of swing and jazz filled up the Mayakovsky Hall for both concert nights.
The first day of the festival started with SKETY a vocal group made up of young professional Czech jazz singers and musicians who are fully engaged in the contemporary scene.
In the second part of the first night, the excited audience gave a warm welcome to STACEY KENT, a 47 year-old American guitar player and singer. This amazing musician performed together with her band – the Quartet. Stacey Kent´s talent and charm were deservingly rewarded by a long lasting applause.
The second day of the festival began with NOTHING BUT SWING TRIO, which is a trio following the tradition and legacy of the famous generation of jazz musicians of the 40’s and 50’s, the likes of Lester Young, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker and others. However, with its production, the band goes beyond the music of the 50’s.
The legendary trumpet player JURAJ BARTOŠ has performed as a guest.
The second half of the evening belonged to BRATISLAVA HOT SERENADERS, the orchestra which belongs among the few strictly-oriented music bands in Slovakia. Its eighteen enthusiastic players have met from the year of establishment in 1992 without an interruption and its style remains unchanged.
Their top-level performance as well as the performace of their female vocalists trio was, as always, rewarded by an incredible reaction of the audience in the sold-out Mayakovsky Hall.
